The Nosebleeds
The first band Morrissey was a singer in. The band was formed in the early 70s as Wild Ram, but they later changed the name to Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds. At that time they had Eddie Garrity on vocals and Vini Reilly on guitar. Later Vini Reilly became a member of Durutti Column, and he played guitars and keyboard on Morrissey's first solo album Viva Hate. Vini also played guitar on one of the rarest Morrissey recordings: I Know Very Well How I Got My Note Wrong (RealAudio file), a single that came with the first 1000 copies of Durutti Column's album titled Vini Reilly.
In late 1977, after that Eddie and Vini had left the group, Pete Crooks on bass, and Toby on drums, shortened the name to The Nosebleeds, and Billy Duffy, later in The Cult, joined in on guitar and Morrissey took over the microphone. On Saturday 15 April 1978 Morrissey did his first public performance at the Manchester Polytechnic. Their second and last gig took place in May 1978 at the Ritz (supporting Magazine), including Morrissey / Duffy songs, like I Get Nervous, Peppermint Heaven, I Think I'm Ready For The Electric Chair, The Living Juke-Box and a cover of The Shangri-Las' Give Him A Great Big Kiss. Soon after the band dissolved. There are no known recordings of The Nosebleeds with Morrissey on vocals.

Pretenders / Chrissie Hynde
After that The Smiths split up Johnny Marr joined Pretenders for a about a year. He was on tour with them (six dates), co-wrote several songs with Hynde and played on the album Windows Of The World (1989).
Chrissie Hynde later sang background vocals on Morrissey's song My Love Life, and you can also spot her dancing in the video for Sing Your Life. On the soundtrack for the movie Boys On The Side Pretenders did a version of Morrissey's song Everyday Is Like Sunday.

Morrissey / Stephen Street wrote the song Please Help The Cause Against Loneliness for Morrissey's album Viva Hate, but it was never included. Instead it was given to Sandie and can be found, together with a remixed version of Hand in glove, on her albums Hello Angel and Nothing Less Than Brilliant (the later also includes I Don't Owe You Anything).
